The underwater world of a Canadian river hides the history of the Innu, the indigenous inhabitants of this land. Shots of the river, from the darkness of which the polyphonic narration of witnesses emerges, form the background for scraps of memories and traces of oral history preserved to this day. The eponymous forests are the reminiscence of the no-longer existing world of tribes living peacefully side by side. European colonisation of this territory brought division, fear and war. Civilisation also interfered with the order of nature and giant pine trees found themselves under water.

Simon Plouffe lives and works in Montreal. His experiences working with sound have led him to explore sonic worlds for both experimental and design purposes. L’or des autres (2011) was shown at 15 international festivals (including RIDM, Dok.Fest Munich, Guadalajara, Big Sky). Ceux qui viendront, l’entendront (2018) won the Iris Award in 2019 for Best Sound, the Jury Prize at the Ann Arbor Festival, and the award for Best Documentary at the Ficwallmapu Festival in Chile. He is currently developing a documentary on blindness caused by armed conflicts.
