Gila Who Walks Alone

A group of girls of various ages freeze motionless in one of the cubicle estates of Orthodox Jews in Bethlehem. They are playing the game of statues. Gila, who is the tallest and oldest among them, is responsible for looking after the younger ones. It is evident that the growing teenager would like to get out of her cramped, crowded flat. Paradoxically, her way to freedom is to get married. Hence the idea of dating a deaf bachelor. She also gets a moment to breathe during a lonely walk to Rachel’s Tomb - the Judaistic symbol of comfort and consolation.
