Since 1978, he has made more than thirty films, including the best-known award-winning series <i>Private Hungary<\/i> based on home movies from the 1930s and 1960s which documents ordinary lives that were soon to be ruptured by an extraordinary historical trauma occurring off screen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Pnina Blayer (Israel)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>For 30 years, she has been Artistic Director of the Haifa International Film Festival, the biggest and most prestigious film event in Israel. Prior to that, she was a festival programmer. She was Head of Film Studies at Haifa University and managed its Cinemateca where she had previously worked as a programme and education director. She is a member of both the Israeli and European Film Academy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Joost Daamen (The Netherlands)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Programmer at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). He studied History and Film at the University of Amsterdam. He has worked for IDFA\u2019s programme department since 2005 and selected films for the Feature-Length Documentary Competition and Paradocs, the experimental film section of the festival.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Chris Niedenthal (Poland)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Born in 1950 to a Polish family living in London. After graduation from the Photography Programme at the London College of Printing, he came to Poland for a few months in 1973 and has stayed until today. Since the late 1970s, he has collaborated with the American weekly Newsweek photographing the birth of the Solidarity movement and Poland under martial law. Since 1985, he has worked as a feature photographer covering Central and Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union and the Balkans for the American Time magazine. He documented the most important events of the 1980s in Poland and the neighbouring countries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Anna Zamecka (Poland)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Polish film director, screenwriter and producer. She has studied Cultural Anthropology, Journalism and Photography in Warsaw and Copenhagen. Her 2016 feature debut <i>Communion<\/i> won numerous awards, including the European Film Award for the best documentary and the Critic\u2019s Week Award at the Locarno International Film Festival. She is a member of the European Film Academy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">International short film competition\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Mehrdad Oskouei (Iran) Chair<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Iranian independent producer, documentary film director and screenwriter and film educator. His films have been shown at respected festivals, both at home and abroad, gaining critical acclaim. He has been a judge at over 120 renowned film festivals as well as a cultural ambassador for the United Nation\u2019s humanitarian committee OCHA. He is also on the board of the Iranian Short Film Association and the Documentary Filmmakers Association of Iran. He also teaches at film schools around Iran and his students are now recognized as the next generation of Iran\u2019s documentary filmmakers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Lydia Beilby (UK)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Curator, artist and educator. She has been Short Film Programmer at the Edinburgh International Film Festival since 2010, and is also a member of Screen Bandita, an analogue moving image collective whose expanded-cinema works have been commissioned and performed widely at film festivals and galleries in the UK and Europe, including Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, the London Short Film Festival and the Battersea Arts Centre.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Michael Brooke (UK)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Writer, editor and multimedia producer specialising in Central and Eastern European cinema. He writes regularly for \u201cSight &amp; Sound\u201d and the \u201cJournal of Film Preservation\u201d<i>, <\/i>contributed chapters to the books \u201cPolish Cinema Now!\u201d (2010), \u201cShadows of Progress\u201d (2010) and \u201cGothic: The Dark Heart of Film\u201d (2013), and works extensively with video labels, such as Arrow, the BFI, Eureka, Indicator and Second Run. His own Blu-ray productions have featured the work of Walerian Borowczyk, Milo\u0161 Forman, Aleksey German, Krzysztof Kie\u015blowski, Ji\u0159\u00ed Menzel, Jan \u0160vankmajer, and many others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Matteo Gariglio (Switzerland)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Swiss-Italian documentary filmmaker and photographer, born in Lucerne, Switzerland. He\u00a0has worked on projects in different languages and many countries across the world. His projects evolve around the human conditions of people living on the verge of society. His short film \u201cEn la boca\u201d won the Golden Dragon Award at 57th Krakow Film Festival as well as many prizes at other international film festivals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Mariusz &#8220;Wilk&#8221; Wilczy\u0144ski (Poland)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Polish animation director and performer. In his films, he employs a peculiar, surreal narrative based on the logic of dream associations. His animations are made using a unique technique, devised by himself. His art has been shown at retrospectives around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Gallery in London, Babylon Kreuzberg in Berlin, the National Museum in Warsaw, and such festivals as Berlinale, New Horizons in Wroc\u0142aw, the Holland Animation Film Festival in Utrecht, the Edinburgh Film Festival or the Mill Valley Film Festival in San Francisco. Wilczy\u0144ski also makes live animation projected on large screens and accompanied by live music.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">International DocFilmMusic competition<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Marcin Borchardt (Poland) Chair<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Screenwriter, director and film expert. Born in 1967, he is a director of documentary films, commercials, video clips and television programmes. He teaches short fiction film aesthetics at the Film School in Gdynia, avant-garde and experimental cinema as well as contemporary documentary filmmaking at the University of Gda\u0144sk. He is an author of the monograph \u201cAwangarda muzyki XX wieku. Przewodnik dla pocz\u0105tkuj\u0105cych\u201d and other monographs and articles. His documentary film \u201cTHE BEKSINSKIS. A Sound and Picture Album\u201d(2017) has been presented at film festivals around the world and it was the opening film of the 57th Krakow Film Festival.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Ben Bassauer (Germany)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Founder and Head of Acquisitions and Sales at Monoduo Films, established in 2011. He is an alumni of Bard College in New York, where he studied Film and Electronic Arts and went on to work for Magnolia Pictures as an acquisitions assistant. Upon moving back to Germany, he worked for the European Film Market of the Berlin Film Festival before starting his own company. Monoduo Films is a sales agency and distributor exclusively for feature-length music documentaries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Michael Treves (Israel)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>International film distributor and sales agent with over 16 years of experience. He is General Manager of JMT Films, his own company established in 2003, which has represented over 100 films. He was born in Paris in 1963, holds a BA in Social Studies from the University of Tel Aviv, an MBA from the Interdisciplinary Centre Herzliya (IDC), Israel, and a diploma in Audiovisual Financing and Commercialisation from the Panth\u00e9on-Sorbonne University and INA, Paris, France. As a specialist with experience in collaboration with broadcasting networks, he also works as an expert, lecturer and advisor at film festivals and film markets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">National competition<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Tadeusz Sobolewski (Poland) Chair<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Film critic, journalist, screenwriter and author. He is a graduate of Polish Philology at the University of Warsaw. He has worked for Film, a Polish weekly, and Kino, a Polish monthly where he was an editor in chief (1990-1994). His articles about cinema and his prose attempts have also been published in Kultura, Literatura, Tygodnik Powszechny and Gazeta Wyborcza, his employer since 1995.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Miko\u0142aj Jazdon (Poland)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Film expert working at the Institute of Film, Media and Audiovisual Arts of the University in Pozna\u0144. His publications include \u201cDokumenty Kie\u015blowskiego\u201d (Pozna\u0144 2002), \u201cPolskie kino niezale\u017cne\u201d (volume editor, Pozna\u0144 2005) and \u201cKino dokumentalne Kazimierza Karabasza\u201d (Pozna\u0144 2009). He has also worked on DVD albums released in the Polish School of Documentary Filmmaking series.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Dorota Kobiela (Poland)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Painter, director and screenwriter. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and the Directing Faculty of the Warsaw Film School. Her film story about Vincent Van Gogh \u201cLoving Vincent\u201d has brought her international acclaim. The film, painted by over 100 artists from across the world, has won a number of awards, including the audience award at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the main prize in the Animation Film Competition at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival, the European Film Award for the 2017 Best Animated Feature Film and nominations to the Golden Globes, the BAFTA Awards and the Oscars.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-thumbnail\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Anna Jadowska (Poland)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Polish screenwriter and director. In 2003, she debuted with the film \u201cTouch Me\u201d, which won, among others, the Main Prize of the Independent Cinema Competition at the Film Festival in Gdynia and the Golden Duck for the best independent film. Her next picture, \u201cIt\u2019s Me Now\u201d (2004), was awarded at the Film Festival in Gdynia, too.\u00a0Her latest work, \u201cWild Roses\u201d (2017), has been honoured with the Stockholm Impact Award at the International Film Festival in Stockholm, the Main Prize of the Cottbus Film Festival and a nomination to the Polish Eagle Award in the Best Directing category.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"result-el\">\n<div class=\"result-descriptions\">\n<h4 class=\"jury-imie\">Petro Aleksowski (Poland)<\/h4>\n<div class=\"jury-opis\">\n<p>Cinematographer and film director. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Cinematography and Television Production of the Film School in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a and holds a degree in Organisation of Film and Television Production from the Faculty of Radio and Television of the University of Silesia in Katowice. He has worked as a cinematographer on over 40 feature films (including \u201cPitbull. Dangerous Women\u201d dir. by Patryk Vega), documentaries, short films, television series and television theatre performances. He is an author of documentaries, some of which have been made for television.
