The international jury awarded the best documentary, short and animated films, which during the whole festival week were trying to woo the experts and the audience in 6 cinemas in Krakow.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event, hosted by the well-known in Krakow journalist and presenter Brain Scott, was attended by Rados\u0142aw \u015amigulski, General Director of the Polish Film Institute.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The outright winner of this year&#8217;s edition of the Krakow Film Festival is an acclaimed film <\/span><b>\u201cOver the Limit\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, directed by <\/span><b>Marta Prus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who was noticed by the Variety magazine. The film received <\/span><b>the Silver Horn <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the best feature film in <\/span><b>the<\/b> <b>International Documentary Film Competition <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>the Silver Hobby-Horse <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the director of the best documentary film in <\/span><b>the National Competition<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The film about the remarkable Russian gymnast Margarita Mamun and the emotional costs of professional sports, received also the award for the best producer of Polish short and documentary films funded by the Polish Audiovisual Producers Chamber of Commerce (KIPA) and the Best Cinematography Award under the patronage of The Polish Society of Cinematographers funded by Coloroffon Film. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The winner of the International Documentary Film Competition <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is <\/span><b>Talal Derki&#8217;s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">film <\/span><b>\u201cOf Fathers and Sons\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The 2014 winner of the Silver Horn once again confronted Krakow audience with the sheer terror of the Syrian war. Four years after the horrifying, successful and widely discussed \u201cReturn to Homs\u201d \u2013 the opening film of the 54th KFF \u2013 the director visited a family of a radicalized ISIS member and followed the process of forming of jihadist fighters. In \u201cOf Fathers and Sons\u201d the camera focuses on little boys who are being prepared the join the ranks of ISIS by their beloved fathers, for whom family is especially important. The film received this year an award for best documentary at Sundance. Jury led by P\u00e9ter Forg\u00e1cs (Hungary) handed out the prestigious <\/span><b>Golden Horn <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">award for \u201cthe director&#8217;s courageous penetration into the world of extremism\u201d. What is more, the film was also awarded by the International Federation of Film Critics Jury (FIPRESCI).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The Silver Horn <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the director of the best medium-length documentary went to <\/span><b>Pablo Aparo and Martin Benchimol <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for their film<\/span><b> \u201cThe Dread\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Argentina).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The winner of the oldest festival competition &#8211; <\/span><b>International Short Film Competition <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; is <\/span><b>Armelle Mercat <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for her film \u201c<\/span><b>Keep Your Hair On<\/b><b>, Oliver\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(France).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The jury, whose chairman was Iranian director and screenwriter Merhard Oskouei, gave the French director <\/span><b>the Golden Dragon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> award emphasizing that the story presented in the film was only possible to tell through animation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Silver Dragons<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the awards given to the best short films representing all three competition genres. The Silver Dragon for the best documentary film went to <\/span><b>Micha\u0142 Hytro\u015b <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for his film \u201c<\/span><b>The Sisters\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Poland). The film received also the special mention in the National Competition. The best animated film is \u201c<\/span><b>Obon\u201d (dir. Andr\u00e9 H\u00f6rmann, Samo (Anna Bergmann))<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Silver Dragon for the best short fiction went to <\/span><b>Emmanuelle Fleytoux <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for her film \u201c<\/span><b>Release the Dogs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(France\/Belgium). The Krakow Film Festival also gave this film the <\/span><b>nomination for the European Film Award in the short film category <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(PRIX EFA KRAKOW 2018 for the best European film).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The best music documentary <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the winner of the <\/span><b>Golden Heynal <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">award, chosen by the Jury led by Marcin Borchardt (Polska), is an American-Japanese documentary<\/span> <b>Ryuichi Sakamoto: Coda\u201d (<\/b><b>dir. Stephen Nomura Schible)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In this moving documentary a story about the roots of music turns into a film meditation, which talks about the human fight with inhibitions. The protagonist, an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Academy Award winner for his original score for the film \u201cThe Last Emperor\u201d, this time shows his other faces: as a music experimenter, an activist fighting against environmental degradation and a man struggling with serious illness. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The film received also the Student Jury award. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The Golden Hobby-Horse in the National Competition <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">went to \u201c<\/span><b>Unconditional Love\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by <\/span><b>Rafa\u0142 \u0141ysak<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Poland). The Jury led by Tadeusz Sobolewski appreciated the film <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for a story about an intimate reality of people from different generations, which escapes a stereotypical judgment. If we watch the world so closely it can actually be tolerant as love is unconditional\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best Polish animation is <\/span><b>\u201cIII\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by <\/span><b>Marta Pajek <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Poland). It is the second <\/span><b>Silver Hobby-Horse<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the artist&#8217;s career. After two years Pajek came back to the idea of an impossible figure, which this time in a sensual and full of eroticism way portrays relations between men and women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The award for the best Polish short fiction was handed out &#8220;for an accurate, comedic attempt to encapsulate the madness of the contemporary world&#8221; to <\/span><b>Maciej Kawalski <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for his film <\/span><b>\u201cAtlas\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Poland). <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The special mention went to the last year&#8217;s winner <\/span><b>Damian Kocur<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for his film <\/span><b>\u201c1410\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>The audience award<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> went to the Polish director Marta Prus for her film <strong>&#8220;Over the limit&#8221;<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the fourth time the Krakow Film Festival, being among Europe&#8217;s most important film festivals, recommends feature documentary films for the European Film Award. This year the official recommendation was given to \u201cWhite Mama\u201d (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zosya Rodkevich, Evgeniya Ostanina)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the third time an important part of the Krakow Film Festival was DOC LAB POLAND section, which belonged to the KFF Industry &#8211; a programme of events devoted to the film industry.
