Having seen all the competition films, the DocFilmMusic Jury consisting of: <\/span>Petr Zelenka \u2013 <\/span>the chairman <\/span>(the Czech Republic), Jeroen Berkvens (the Netherlands), Andy Markowitz (the UK) <\/span>has decided to award:<\/span>
\n <\/span>GOLDEN HEYNAL<\/span><\/b> for the Director of the Best Film \u2013 Jay Bulger<\/b>, the director of BEWARE OF MR. BAKER<\/b> (USA).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In documentaries about music and musicians, you want a film that showcases talent on both sides of the camera \u2013 that tells a compelling story with cinematic skill. Among the DocFilmMusic competitors, the jury felt the movie that most closely matched this criteria was Beware of Mr. Baker directed by Jay Bulger. In profiling the drummer, Ginger Baker, Bulger has a compelling main character, to be sure. In many ways the story is a clich\u00e9 – the rock star from the 60s who abused himself and everyone around him. In this case, the film does not try to rehabilitate its subject, to make us love or forgive him. Ginger Baker is a brilliant musician and a complete asshole, and Beware of Mr. Baker shows us both sides clearly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Most of all, in keeping with the independent spirit of this festival, we wanted to recognize this achievement by a first-time director who was not even a filmmaker before this movie, but who found a story he wanted to tell and talked his way into doing it. The film has flaws and some of the self-indulgence that can come with a first time filmmaker, but it is also made with confidence, humor, and verve, with stylized touches that illuminate what was already a very wild ride.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

GOLDEN HORN for the Director of the Best Film: <\/span><\/b>for<\/span>Tora M\u00e5rtens<\/span><\/b>,<\/span> the director of COLOMBIANOS<\/b> (Sweden, Finland).<\/span>
\n <\/span>With the camera always ready to catch the right moment and the right place, with an intimate yet never embarrassing approach, with a unique access and a lot of respect for the characters, the filmmaker Tora <\/span>M\u00e5rtens<\/span> and cameraman Erik Vallsten follow the protagonists to deliver a universal message of coming to terms with how much family members can care for each other \u2013 and of understanding that we barely have control over our own lives and very limited responsibility towards others.\u00a0Set against the problem of drugs and alcohol addiction, this family drama unfolds, leaving us thinking not only about Pablo, Fernando and their mother but also about ourselves.
\n <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

SILVER HORN for the Director of the Best Medium-Length Documentary: <\/span><\/b>for Marat Sargsyan<\/b>, <\/b>the director of THE FATHER<\/b> (Lithuania).<\/span>
\n <\/span>This portrayal of a controversial man avoids any attempt of judgment on the part of the filmmaker and relies on the impact of the images.<\/span>
\n <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

SILVER HORN<\/span><\/b> for the Director of the Best Feature-Length Documentary: <\/b><\/span>for Marcel \u0141ozi\u0144ski<\/b>, the director of FATHER AND SON ON A JOURNEY<\/b> and Pawe\u0142 \u0141ozi\u0144ski<\/b>, the director of FATHER AND SON<\/b><\/span> (Poland).<\/span>
\n <\/span>Is sharing the same profession between a father and a son a curse or a blessing? And can a film be used to reconcile this and other family matters? Two famous filmmakers, a father and a son, embark on a journey in search of answers to these and other questions: their filmmaking skills, the tool in their hands and the road in front of them, a source of inspiration. The result is a unique cinematic experiment and a testament to their mutual love, despite the complexity of their relationship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mahdi Fleifel\u2019s intimate yet respectful approach, drawn with empathy, humour and love, created a unique human portrait of a small community deprived of its future.\u00a0<\/div>\n

THE AWARD OF THE POLISH SOCIETY OF CINEMATOGRAPHERS (PSC) <\/b>to Linas Dabriska<\/b>(Lithuania) for the best cinematography to THE FATHER<\/b>(dir. Marat Sargsyan) for capturing and showing on screen the beauty in the movie The Father.\u00a0<\/div>\n

The FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) Jury<\/u><\/b> consisting of: Les\u0142aw Roman Czapli\u0144ski (Poland), Marco Lombardi (Italy), Harri R\u00f6mp\u00f6tti (Finland) has decided to award the film THE LAST BLACK SEA PIRATES<\/b> directed by Svetoslav Stoyanov<\/b> (Bulgaria), for a funny and romantic encounter between two kinds of treasure hunters \u2013 seekers of old pirate gold and capitalists building a business.\u00a0<\/div>\n

The Student Jury for Documentary Competition<\/u><\/b> consisting of: Mateusz G\u00f3ra, Ma\u0142gorzata Lisiecka, Filip Nowakhas decided to award the film A WORLD NOT OURS <\/b>directed by Mahdi Fleifel<\/b> (UK\/United Arab Emirates\/Lebanon), which is a personal and not without irony journey to a childhood place presented in a daring and visually attractive manner. The author skillfully uses a private story to show the difficult situation of refugees. He intentionally uses various audiovisual techniques illustrating the multiplicity of perspectives and generational differences.\u00a0<\/div>\n

\n Don Quichote Award<\/b> to the film TIRED OF BEING HANDSOME<\/b>,directed by L\u00e9o Marchand and Anne-Laure Daffis <\/b>(France).
\n In the spirit of Beckett\u2019s \u201cWaiting for Godot\u201d, Anne-Laure Daffis and L\u00e9o Marchand \u2018s poetic western is a metaphor for man\u2019s struggle to find a meaning in the meaningless. The two protagonists of opposite personalities long for paradise \u2013 in this case Mexico- hoping to find a better life. But until then, they have to find a reason for their existence, not realising that everything will start again from the beginning. Great actors and well composed cinemascope images tell us this minimalist ic though surprising poem, which is a mirror of our own existence and its meaning.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Special Mention<\/b> goes to Anne Zohra Berrached<\/b> for the film SAINT & WHORE<\/b> (Germany).<\/div>\n
We want to honour the courage of the director, Anne Zohra Berrached, but even more her two protagonists for stepping forward and telling us their story, which still remains a controversial issue.\u00a0<\/div>\n

The Student Jury for Short Film Competition<\/u><\/b> consisting of: Lucyna Adamska, Aleksandra Ko\u017ami\u0144ska, Krzysztof Siwo\u0144\u00a0has decided to award the film ALLAH IS GREAT<\/b> directed by Andrea Ianetta <\/b>(India) for the precision of narration and reminding us that it’s not always worth to be on time.

\n For taking an analytical look at the inhabitants of a Warsaw housing complex. It’s a brutal, full of aggression story about an escape from the margins of society into the territory of the ‘normals’.\u00a0<\/div>\n
