We are not slowing down, we are not losing energy, we are looking forward to making cinema our second home for the next week! The first part of the iconic ‘Qatsi’ trilogy is a beautiful visual essay made in documentary form. “Koyaanisqatsi” in the language of the Hopi people living in Arizona means “life out of balance” or “life in a state of chaos”. The main and only protagonist here is planet Earth, the site of a clash between two different realities: primeval nature and human civilisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish Documentary Panorama: “Kuba”, dir.\u00a0Marcin Strauchold<\/a> (Kino Pod Baranami, 17:00 +Q&A)<\/b> Janusz Morgenstern was a director of films and TV series that left a permanent mark on Polish cinematography, such as \u2018Good Bye, Till Tomorrow\u2019, \u2018To Kill This Love\u2019 or \u2018More Than Life at Stake\u2019. Morgenstern\u2019s portrait is woven out of broadcasts, photos, interviews with his loved ones and his own films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish Documentary Panorama: “Flowers of Ukraine”, dir.\u00a0Adelina Borets<\/a>\u00a0(Kino Kij\u00f3w, 15:30)\u00a0<\/b> On a flowery plot of land, in the middle of a block of flates in Kiev lives 67-year-old Natalia, who has been fighting for years against investors who would like to build another property in place of her house. And just when it seems that fighting the developers is the worst thing that happens to her, Russia’s attack on Ukraine begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Andersson Brothers, dir. Johanna Bernhardson<\/a>\u00a0(Kino Kij\u00f3w, 17:00 + Q&A<\/b>) A renowned Swedish director, Roy Andersson, who made, among others, \u2018You, the Living\u2019, had three brothers. A daughter of one of them, standing behind the camera, in both an intimate and uncompromising way, x-rays the family story marked by addictions and conflicts. By shooting this film she would like to unite the relatives conflicted for many years, but she also points the camera at herself. She wants to discover to what extent our lives are determined by social background and life conditions, and whether the next generations have to copy the tragic patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don Lewis and The Live Electronic Orchestra re\u017c N.Augustenborg<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

“Don Lewis and The Live Electronic Orchestra”, dir. Ned Augustenborg<\/a> (Kino Pod Baranami, 18:00 +Q&A)<\/b> America was not ready for such a revolution. In the 1970s, Don Lewis, who was an electronic engineer and musician, constructed a synthesizer that could generate and mix sounds on an unprecedented scale. However, trade unions protested the invention as they feared it might make musicians jobless. In this way, the story of success turned into a drama of a man striving for recognition and struggling with racial prejudice. The documentary does justice to the inventor demonstrating the significance of his influence on the development of music, not only electronic. Indirectly, it also reveals the concerns provoked by technological development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Baldiga – Unlocked Heart”, dir.\u00a0Markus Stein<\/a> (Kino Kij\u00f3w, 19:45 + Q&A)<\/b> \u2018My libido will kill me one day\u2019, said J\u00fcrgen Baldiga, a young photographer, poet and activist. In the 1980s in West Berlin, he was a co-founder and chronicler of the local LGBT+ culture. The abundant archival materials, including journals, he left behind were used to tell a neurotic story about himself and the community living in the shadow of the AIDS epidemic. Baldiga\u2019s uncompromising, provocative and \u2018dirty\u2019 photographs documented the atmosphere of the time when hedonism was also a desperate response to omnipresent fear and a moral stigma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Holy Father”, dir.\u00a0Andrei D\u0103sc\u0103lescu<\/a> (Kino Pod Baranami, 19:30 + Q&A)<\/b> A child coming to the world provokes future parents to confront their own relatives. For neither of them is it easy as they come from broken homes. Paula has several cautious conversations online, but her partner, the director of the documentary, who lost his mother a few years ago, decides to inform his father in person. Andrei sets out on a unique journey to the monastery at the foot of Mount Athos. It is where his father, who is a devout monk today, found his place on Earth. The director has high expectations as he would like to make up for the lost time and understand his father\u2019s decision but, first and foremost, he would like to learn how to become a better parent himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We encourage you to download zero tickets before the screenings. Free tickets can be downloaded on the site after logging into My KFF<\/a>. Just go to the “Program” tab and using the filters search for the film you are interested in. Free tickets can also be picked up at cinema box offices after showing accreditation no later than 15 minutes before the start of the screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
