Can you believe we’re already halfway through the festival?\nThe Dragon of Dragons award ceremonies for the heroes of our retrospectives this year, Jacek Petrycki and Godfrey Reggio, are behind us. A meeting with Ana Blandiana, a celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Educational Film Studio in Lodz, and many inspiring meetings after the screenings with the filmmakers, creators and our reliable and most wonderful audience! And this is still just a fraction of the wonders that have been happening at our place in recent days!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HIGHLIGHTS_OF_THE_DAY<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

World premiere of the film “A Year in the Life of the Country?”, directed by Tomasz Wolski<\/a> (Kino Kij\u00f3w, 19:45 +Q&A)<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martial law, which was imposed in Poland on 13 December 1981, targeted the Solidarity movement, but it had other faces, too. On the basis of exclusively archival footage, the film explores the backstage of the past events. It undermines the mythicised image of Polish society as a victim of the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Slawek runs through the fields with a metal detector. Adam uses a curved barbell to break a European record. Marzena sits in the barn on Facebook. Only cows go to school anymore. Where to go. In Chlebiotki. A Polish village. 60 residents. Houses planted with thuyas. In the evening, everyone sits on the Internet. And everyone misses something. “School, world” is an interactive documentary, based on observation, irritation and love. Each of the 8 characters is devoted to a different chapter. The director grew up in Chlebiotki. She returned years later. What did she find? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whoever saves one life, saves the entire world \u2013 that\u2019s the motto of Anna, the strongest woman in the world, who loves animals. After Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, Anna joined by a group of volunteers are doing everything possible to save as many wounded and abandoned animals as they can in these difficult days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“1489”, dir. Shoghakat Vardanyan<\/a> (Kino Mikro, 18:00+ Q&A)<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film title is the number used to mark the Armenian soldier lost in action who fought against Azeris in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020. While the family is trying to find the student\u2019s body, his sister is recording the search and accompanying emotions on her smartphone. Will the DNA test confirm that the bones discovered are Soghomon\u2019s remnants? The carefully arranged takes offer us an insight into an exceptionally intimate situation when filming becomes in-depth co-feeling. It is an intimate documentary, shot in an intuitive way, whose climax will not leave anyone cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 “Monogamia”, dir. Ohad Milstein<\/a> (Kino Mikro,  20:00+Q&A)<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At different stages of life physical intimacy means different things, but its absence can be equally hurtful. The director observes his senior parents whose relationship burned out a long time ago, for which his mother tries to compensate with increasingly riskier shopaholism. The son initiates a psychodrama featuring his parents and at the same time tests his own marriage, which is falling into a routine. This hybrid, self-reflexive and to a large extent self-ironic documentary poses the question whether monogamy nowadays is still the best form of a relationship between two persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruhollah Zam, a persecuted journalist from Teheran, was forced to leave for France with his family, but even there he needs to live in conspiracy. The director accompanies him during remote work and in his everyday fear. It turns out that the international network of activists is infiltrated by the Iranian regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
