Screening of the film “Silent Trees”, directed by Agnieszka Zwiefka<\/a> (Kino Kij\u00f3w, 19:00 +Q&A)<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Runa, a 16-year-old Kurdish girl, had escaped from Iraq to avoid the attacks of ISIS and, together with her family, became stuck on the Polish-Belorussian border. Eventually, she managed to reach Poland, where she needed to grow up at an accelerated speed. Thanks to her animated drawings, the audience can discover more about her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Screening of the film “A Strong Man”, directed by Henryk Szaro (Poland 1929, 88′) with live music by Piotr Orzechowski and Kuba Wi\u0119ck<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Krakow Film Festival in collaboration with the FINA National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute invite to the screening of a silent film ‘A Strong Man’ with live music. The film will be presented on the 35mm film from the FINA archive.\n\n‘A Strong Man’ by Henryk Szaro is an adaptation of Stanis\u0142aw Przybyszewski\u2019s novel, a formal reference to German expressionism. This psychological drama presenting successive stages of an artist\u2019s moral decline is one of the last Polish films of the silent cinema era, which was considered to be lost for almost 70 years. Live music will be performed by Piotr Orzechowski and Kuba Wi\u0119cek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Betrayed”, dir. Clive Gordon<\/a> (Kino Kij\u00f3w, 18:00)<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the 31st December 1994, 3500 men of the Russian Majkopsky Brigade were sent into attack Grozny. They were never seen again. “The Betrayed” is the story of their mothers’ search for their sons, a search that takes the women through the front line to the Chechen position. Abandoned by the Russian authorities who are seeking only to conceal the extent of the defeat, they place their trust in Kossov, a former Russian Colonel who is trying arrange an exchange of prisoners. But when Kossov’s agent Renat also goes missing and the Russians attack the neighbouring town of Samashki, Kossov is plunged helplessly into the full horror of a genocidal war directed against the civilian population. Jacek Petrycki received BAFTA Award for cinematography in this film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Nice Ladies”, dir. Mariia Ponomarova<\/a> (Kino Pod Baranami, 19:30)<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the escalation of Russia\u2019s war on Ukraine, the seemingly unbreakable bond of a vibrant cheerleading team of 50+ year old women called “Nice Ladies” is challenged. They face impossible choices between motherland and grandmotherhood, between staying and leaving. Core team member Sveta flees with her family to the Netherlands, while captain Valia and coach Nadia stay behind in the repeatedly bombed city of Kharkiv. Torn apart, the ladies try to keep contact to hold on to their sanity amid terror, heartbreak, and the plague of Sveta’s survivor\u2019s guilt. Will the team be able to reunite, save their sisterhood, and find a common language through the emerging scars of war?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RuhollaThe eponymous character, who conducts the best European orchestras, says that the most important thing is to have a good team \u2013 both in the family and at work. Joana Mallwitz is filmed over the breakthrough period of two years when her son is born and her career considerably speeds up.
