Many months of preparation, hundreds of watched films, countless discussions, and, finally, difficult decisions \u2013 all to shape the best possible programme for the 66<\/b>th<\/b> Krakow Film Festival. The selection committee brings together both theorists and practitioners: film scholars and filmmakers, critics and directors. Overseeing the entire process is the festival\u2019s new Artistic Director, Anita Piotrowska. The titles selected by the team will be screened in festival cinemas at the turn of May and June, with a significant portion also available on KFF VOD.<\/b><\/p>\n\n

Short Form: Animation, Documentary, Fiction<\/b><\/p>\n\n

Their excellent animated films have appeared at the Krakow Film Festival on multiple occasions. Now they are the ones shaping the programme of the coming Festival. The most compelling animated works will be selected by a two-person team led by the acclaimed and award-winning animator <\/span>Zbigniew Czapla<\/b>, joined by <\/span>Marta Pajek<\/b> \u2014 an equally talented animator whose films have been recognised at international festivals.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Her <\/span>A Song of Humble Beauty<\/span><\/i> screened this year in the National Competition, while his sharp writing has appeared in numerous print magazines and online publications. Audiovisual artist <\/span>Anna Konik<\/b> and film critic <\/span>Micha\u0142 Piepi\u00f3rka<\/b> are, with great attentiveness, watching this year\u2019s short documentary submissions.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Short fiction films consistently generate the highest number of entries, hence the largest selection team. The challenging task of deciding which titles will be featured in the programme of the 66<\/span>th<\/span> Krakow Film Festival rests with film scholar and critic <\/span>Magdalena Nie\u015bwiec<\/b>; director and journalist <\/span>Kamil Czudej<\/b>; film scholar and historian of Polish cinema <\/span>Jaros\u0142aw Grzechowiak<\/b>; film scholar <\/span>Anna Maria Piskorska<\/b>; director <\/span>Jakub Radej<\/b>; film scholar <\/span>Karolina Ho\u0142ub<\/b>; director <\/span>El\u017cbieta Benkowska<\/b>; and film critic and journalist <\/span>Mateusz Demski.<\/b><\/p>\n\n

The work of the short-film selection team is curated by <\/span>Bartosz Tesarz<\/b> \u2014 film scholar and organiser of both the Krakow Film Festival and the filmPOLSKA festival in Germany.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Long Form: Documentary<\/b><\/p>\n\n

Full-length documentaries with a runtime exceeding 50 minutes will be selected by a six-member team of committed selectors working in pairs: film critic <\/span>Barbara Kosecka<\/b>, director <\/span>Grzegorz Pacek<\/b>, film critic and journalist <\/span>Marcin Stachowicz<\/b>, director <\/span>Grzegorz Zariczny<\/b>, film scholar <\/span>J\u0119drzej Ko\u015bci\u0144ski<\/b>, and director <\/span>Edyta Wr\u00f3blewska<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Their picks are closely overseen by Artistic Director <\/span>Anita Piotrowska<\/b>, who will be making the final programming decisions. In the spring, we are going to find out which of the proposed titles will enter the competitive sections and which will be presented out of competition.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The Krakow Film Festival is on the exclusive list of film events qualifying for the <\/span>Academy Awards\u00ae<\/span><\/a> in short film categories (fiction, animation, documentary) and feature-length documentary, the <\/span>European Film Awards<\/span><\/a> in the same categories, and serves as a qualifying event for the <\/span>BAFTA Awards<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The Krakow Film Festival is organised with financial support from the City of Krakow, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Polish Film Institute, and the Creative Europe MEDIA Programme. The Polish Filmmakers Association serves as co-organiser. \n<\/p>\n\n
