The official opening, led by the Festival Director Krzysztof Gierat, was attended by the Mayor of the City of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski and international representatives of the world of cinema.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9792\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9792\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-9792\" src=\"https:\/\/www.krakowfilmfestival.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/image1-729x486.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.krakowfilmfestival.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/image1-729x486.jpeg 729w, https:\/\/www.krakowfilmfestival.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/image1.jpeg 1776w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9792\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jury, ph. Szatan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt is worth mentioning that Krzysztof Kie\u015blowski, Andrzej Fidyk, Marcel \u0141ozi\u0144ski were beginning at this festival. Here the careers of many animated film directors have started including an Oscar winner Zbigniew Rybczy\u0144ski. It is really a great and beautiful festival\u201d \u2013 said the Mayor of the City of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski while opening the ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the 8 festival days the audience will have a chance to watch 200 films from Poland and the rest of the world presented in 4 competitions and 12 out-of-competition sections, more often than not shown in our country for the very first time. The films in the competitions will be judged by the international Jury with all the members present at the ceremony.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9794\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9794\" style=\"width: 501px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-9794\" src=\"https:\/\/www.krakowfilmfestival.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/image2-729x486.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"501\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.krakowfilmfestival.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/image2-729x486.jpeg 729w, https:\/\/www.krakowfilmfestival.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/image2.jpeg 1776w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 501px) 100vw, 501px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9794\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">#SaveOlegSentsov, ph. Szatan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The jury members, in a moving gesture of solidarity, raised sheets of paper with the phrase #SaveOlegSentsov written on them. Oleg Sentsov, Ukrainian filmmaker convicted by the Russian court to 20 years in a labour camp, 14 days ago has made a dramatic decision to begin a hunger strike which he is still continuing today. Last year Polish Film Academy symbolically took him into its care during the festival initiating international action and publicly appealing to the Russian authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The screening of the documentary film \u201cConcerto for Two\u201d, which had its world premiere at the opening ceremony of the Festival, was received with enthusiastic applause and followed the meeting with the filmmakers and film protagonists Jerzy and Ewa Maksymiuk. The audience in Krakow will have another chance to see the movie on May 30th at 11 AM at Kino Pod Baranami and at 3 PM in Mikro cinema.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The real surprise for the audience assembled in Kij\u00f3w.Centrum theatre was a brief piano recital performed by the master Jerzy Maksymiuk himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ahead of us is a week full of screenings of the competition and out-of-competition films.
