This was one of the cases that inspired Bartosz M. Kowalski when he was shooting his controversial feature-length debut "Playground". In 1993, the world was shocked by the reports of the brutal murder of two-year old James Bulger. The boy had been killed by two ten-year-old boys who were later tried as if they were adults. Vincent Lambe, an award-winning director, producer and screenwriter, a graduate of the Irish National Film School, approaches the subject from a completely different perspective than Kowalski. His film is based on the authentic recordings and scripts of the interrogations of the juvenile criminals by the police. Despite the brutality of the subject, he avoids scenes of conspicuous violence, but it needs to be remembered that he confronts evil with children’s sensitivity (or lack thereof). Lambe excellently guides his young actors - Ely Solan and Leon Hughes.
