MR LANDSBERGIS
Lithuania, The Netherlands, USA2021documentary248'
Today, in the context of Russian aggression, this film’s message is doubly powerful. In March 1990, Lithuania was the first Soviet republic to declare independence, which resulted in economic sanctions and military aggression from the collapsing empire. The most important figure was Vytautas Landsbergis, who led the country’s struggle for sovereignty. Being a detailed chronicle of these events, consisting of archival footage and contemporary interviews with the politician, the films shows painstaking negotiations, dramatic moments, sudden twists of action and the realisation that history could have turned out very differently.
