What are Russian soldiers talking about when they call their families from the front? The phone conversations recorded by the Ukrainian secret service in the first six months of the war reveal a completely different picture than the one created by the Kremlin propaganda. The overheard chats are contrasted with the recording of what the barbaric invaders left behind them. The effect is not just a double testimony of destruction, looting and war crimes. It is also a suspenseful story about authentic emotions, moods and moments of doubt that accompany aggressors or their families. When set against post-apocalyptic views, they make a paralysing study of enslavement and conformism.
