Landscape

Germany2003documentary60'

The camera is contemplating the winter landscape of a small town somewhere in Russia. Landscape is an experience where cinema borders with painting. The Bruegelesque scenery is slowly revealed to the viewer by the hypnotising work of the camera and enigmatic editing. We do not know too much about this post-industrial town, but an old Orthodox church among birches and rundown buildings are suggestive of its story. The atmosphere of waiting at a bus stop is interrupted with snippets of conversations, which make an account of the everyday life of the town’s residents.
