Fandango
Spain2024documentary87'DocFilmMusic Competition
The Andalusian province of Huelva is famous for nurturing its traditional music, sometimes despised and considered a plebeian version of flamenco. Nevertheless, fandango is a separate style, which is still alive among the locals and also practised by women. With ethnographic diligence, the black-and-white film explores the history, specifics and variations of the genre, depicting performances in taverns, street rituals and highly professional disputes. The youngest generation also reaches for fandango, performing it in a more modern fashion.
