USA2025documentary30'Short Film Competition

Jay Rosenblatt, a master of avant-garde cinema with two Oscar nominations, once again turns the camera on himself. The footage shot 25 years ago is a raw record of a couple’s dialogue as they experience the crisis of upcoming parenthood. Rosenblatt has long used the documentary as a tool of introspection – and this is yet another manifestation of his fascination with the tensions that lie beneath the surface of everyday conversations. Just like most of his films, this documentary also eludes pigeonholing – it is a personal story and, at the same time, a universal study of the human condition.
