Mama Micra

Germany2024documentary24'Short Film Competition

The director’s mother, Verena, had travelled the world and led an unconventional life before she got married. She was always looking for independence. After returning to Germany and starting a family, she was unable to tolerate the confinement of four walls for long and hit the road again. For ten years she lived in a small car, which meant she hardly saw her daughter. Freedom was everything to her, but it came at a high price. The documentary combines stop-motion animation with archival photographs and an intimate audio conversation between the women, which adds up to a personal story of a daughter trying to understand her mother’s decision.
