New Beginnings
Belgium2025documentary87'Documentary Competition
Al, a resident of California’s Yurok reserve, decides to embark on a long journey. Due to an environmental catastrophe, it is becoming increasingly difficult for him to engage in fishing, and the demons of the war in which he fought 44 years ago are still swirling in his head. Will a reunion with his former brothers-in-arms enable him to regain his equilibrium? This unhurried and dreamlike road movie is also a reflection on the American culture of violence. The directors accompany the protagonist on his journey to the heart of darkness marked by the past, which includes more than just a war.
