A Frown Gone Mad
Lebanon2024documentary71'Body
The closer the war, the busier the business – these are the observations of the head of a Beirut beauty salon specialising in facial injections using a variety of substances. The target group includes women, although sometimes there are men, too, and the camera observes their voluntary torture without judging this pursuit of youth and beauty. Without any anaesthesia, operating mainly with close-ups, it shows aesthetic medicine procedures which are performed in spite of exploding bombs, uncertain times and completely different wounds, both physical and psychological.

A visual artist based in Beirut. Project driven and medium promiscuous, his work takes up conflict and its representations as they inform the everyday via form deliberations, material interventions, and translation strategies. These investigations have produced a dérive through form, from photography, sculpture, and mosaics to performance, installation, and film.
