Living Stones

Hungary2025fiction20'Short Film Competition

A young woman is lying on the tracks, while a train can be heard approaching from a distance. At the last moment, she jumps up and the train passes her within a hair’s breadth. This is the dream that the patient tells her therapist. The woman is staying at a rehabilitation centre, where she is in animal-assisted therapy. As her treatment progresses, the patient delves deeper and deeper into the darker regions of her past and, under the doctor’s supervision, slowly uncovers further layers of trauma. Trust and intimacy are an essential but very fragile part of this process.

directed by
Jakob Ladányi Jancsó

Film director. First he studied psychology at Freie Universität Berlin before, in 2019, taking up a master’s degree in film directing at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest. He has worked closely with Béla Tarr for whom he was an assistant. He is currently developing his debut feature film.
