The Passenger Andrzej Munk
Poland2025documentary84'Polish Documentary Panorama
This documentary, based on unique archival materials, is dedicated to Andrzej Munk, a leading figure of the Polish Film School and an author of such unforgettable films as ‘Man on the Tracks’, ‘Eroica’, ‘Bad Luck’ or ‘The Passenger’. Michał Bielawski takes his own artistic approach to the eminent director’s achievements and illustrates them with film clips, chronicles and photographs from the protagonist’s rich archives, supplemented with impressionistic reenactments. What holds the documentary together is an off-screen narration, based on interviews with Andrzej Munk himself, his colleagues and friends, which guides us through the story of his life and work. An important element of the film is previously unknown footage featuring the director, which was found in Polish and foreign archives.
