Without a poster you don’t exist, and certainly not in India. A politician cannot win there without an election banner, a festival cannot take place without the necessary poster, even religious ceremonies or private birthdays require this form of advertising to gather followers, voters or guests. In his documentary satire, Rishi Chandna looks straight behind the scenes of the local ‘poster industry’. We get a glimpse of the poster makers who work in squalid conditions, create graphics using a primitive programme and cover the city with them at night. But what will their work look like during a pandemic and will they be needed at all?
