MEETINGS AND TALKS

KFF TALKS

KFF TALKS is a series of unique meetings and fascinating discussions with eminent not only from the film world. Hovering on the borderline of philosophy, science, natural sciences and humanities, they converse about the condition of the world and the place of a human being in contemporary reality.

Hard to Be Human. The debate opening this year’s Docs+Science section.

26.05 MON 17:30-18:30 | Bunkier Sztuki

How can we define life and death in analogue and digital worlds? Where should we set the boundaries of our biological identity? How can we retell the story of the world in a new, multi-voiced, non-anthropomorphic way, following the proposals put forward by contemporary science? How can we find our own place in a technologically assisted reality – between the natural and the mechanical, the analogue and the digital? These topics will be discussed by three guests who represent disciplines that were once separate but are now increasingly intertwined: art, humanities, philosophy, biology and computer science.
The talk will be attended by Julia Fiedorczuk, Barbara Pietrzak, and Jan K. Argasiński. Moderator – Karol Jałochowski, a curator of Docs+Science section (Pulsar).

27.05 TUE 17:30-18:30 | Bunkier Sztuki

How can we define life and death in analogue and digital worlds? Where should we set the boundaries of our biological identity? How can we retell the story of tIs it possible to own less, and yet have more? Can our choices save the world? Our knowledge is expanding, we are aware of the environmental price of our phones, cars and lives – and yet resource consumption is increasing. How can a sense of guilt be transformed into climate agency and how can an individual influence the world’s future ecology? Researcher Marta Seweryn and climate columnist Piotr Sergiej will take part in a debate moderated by Michał Olszewski.

Why do we need the difficult media?

28.05 WED 17:30-18:30 | Bunkier Sztuki

Instant attraction is close to manipulation. Random news is only a step away from fake news. But it is the instant media that offer pleasure and a sense of being up to date, and provide simple answers to difficult questions. Long texts, in-depth analyses, documentaries or nuanced reports demand an effort, concentration and attention from the audience. So why bother? Marek Zając, Maia Mazurkiewicz, Michał Olszewski and Magdalena Kicińska will discuss the role of the media in the post-truth era. Moderated by Aga Kozak

JEAN-FRANÇOIS LAGUIONIE MASTERCLASS

26.05 MON 12:15-13:30 | MOS2 Małopolski Ogród Sztuki

During the 65th Krakow Film Festival, Jean-François Laguionie, a prominent French director and animator, will hold a masterclass on his original method of creative work. During the meeting, the master will share his unique approach to the animation process. The focus will be on the technique of “wild animation” – a working method in which animatics (also known as “mock-up”) precedes the storyboarding stage. Unlike the traditional process, Laguionie creates sketches of characters and scenes, which he then combines with music in an edit very close to the final cut of the film.
