KFF IN BARBAKAN

Motion Trio

26.05 MON 19:00 | Barbakan

Motion Trio is a Polish accordion trio with over 25 years of experience which combines Eastern European inspirations with classical precision. The ensemble has a unique repertoire thanks to the compositions by Janusz Wojtarowicz, Paweł Baranek and Marcin Gałażyn. Starting out as street performers, the musicians have reached the stages of Carnegie Hall, the Barbican Centre or the Vienna Konzerthaus. What distinguishes them is the unprocessed, natural sound of the accordion, with which they create ‘motion music’ – a fusion of minimalism, jazz, rock and folk, searching for new applications of this fascinating instrument.

Janusz Prusinowski Kompania (formerly Trio) includes disciples and continuators of the tradition of rural musicians and singers. They complement their music with dance, combine tours with workshops and the knowledge of the old musicians’ craft with contemporary sensitivity. Kompania’s repertoire consists of dances and songs from central Poland, above all mazurkas – sung, improvised, swirled and frenetic. Dance is an essential component of rural music-making.
