The Islands and the Whales

United Kingdom, Denmark2016documentary81'Docs+science (2017)

In the archipelago of Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic, the difficult nature is not conducive to agriculture, which is why the main source of food for the native community of Faroes is traditional sea bird and whale hunting. The condition of the environment poses a threat to the local ecosystem as well as the lives and health of the archipelago’s residents. Whale meat is polluted with mercury and plastic waste can be found in birds’ stomachs. The pressure from the organisations acting for animal rights may force Faroes to change their traditional ways of living.
