Ma'ohi Nui, in the Heart of the Ocean My Country Lies

Belgium2018documentary112'Opowieści ze świata (2018)

Tahiti, a paradise island in the shadow of a mushroom cloud. It allures tourists with its tropical climate and exciting exotic culture. Yet very few foreign visitors delve into the history of Polynesia, affected by nuclear weapons tests. And the events that took place more than 50 years ago still loom over the island and its inhabitants. The documentary takes us for a journey around the island so that we can see it through the eyes of the indigenous people Ma’ohi. We observe them in everyday situations, when they work and when they relax. They clearly feel the need to go back to tradition and gain political independence.
