First Love

Documentary and feature film director and screenwriter. Born in 1941 in Warsaw. He studied directing at the Film School in Łódź. His first documentaries (‘Urząd’, ‘Z miasta Łodzi’) were made under the supervision of Kazimierz Karabasz and Jerzy Bossak. He debuted on television with the documentary ‘Photo’ (1969). After graduation, until 1983, he was associated with the Warsaw Documentary Film Studio, where he made most of his documentaries. Working with Krzysztof Piesiewicz, he created feature films, including the series ‘Decalogue’ or ‘Three Colours’, for which he received dozens of awards and distinctions. He was the winner of the ‘Felix’ - the award of the European Film Academy. He taught directing and screenwriting at universities in Katowice, West Berlin, Helsinki and in Switzerland and Łódź. Member of the British Film Institute and the Film Academy in the USA.
