Tadeusz Rolke. Fischmarkt

Tadeusz Rolke, a recently deceased giant of Polish photography, lived and worked in Hamburg during the 1970s. One of his favourite spots in the North German metropolis was Altonaer Fischmarkt — the Sunday fish market on the banks of the Elbe. This bustling space, combining commercial and social functions, inspired the photographic series ‘Fischmarkt’. The black-and-white, feature-style shots showcase what is perhaps the most valued in Rolke’s work — his interest in people and their individuality, as well as his sense of humour and exceptional observational skills. The exhibition is part of this year’s leading theme of Kraków Photomonth, promoted with the slogan ‘Unreal Estate’ — a story of Polish-German relations and entanglements against the broad backdrop of Central Europe. Zuzanna M. Szary: The cookbook

Zuzanna Szary’s new exhibition at UFO Art Gallery is a logical continuation of the themes and motifs the artist has explored so far. The figure who inspired the artist is Gertrude Stein’s life partner, Alice B. Toklas, author of the famous ‘The Alice B. Toklas Cook Book’. It is precisely this work that Zuzanna Szary has drawn upon in creating an ambiguous and unsettling new cycle of paintings depicting animals, food, and abundance. The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue of the artist’s works, featuring texts by Renata Lis and Dorota Kotas as well as a transcribed conversation with Zuzanna Szary. The book launch will take place during the run of the exhibition.
