Son of the Mullah

Sweden2023documentary100'International Documentary Competition

Ruhollah Zam, an opposition journalist from Teheran, carries the name of the Islamic revolution’s leader and is a son of a prominent Muslim cleric. Involved in the protests of 2017-2018 and persecuted by the authorities, he had to leave for France with his wife and children. But even there, despite the protection received, he needs to live in conspiracy. The director accompanies him during remote work and in his everyday fear. The film, shot on the go, fills with even more terror when it turns out that the international network of activists is infiltrated by the Iranian regime and one may not even trust one’s collaborators.
