Cry Me Through Hell

Taiwan2023fiction29'International Short Competition

Airports are usually places full of hustle and bustle where crowds of travellers pass each other on escalators and in long passageways leading to terminals. This one, however, is different. It is exceptionally peaceful and quiet. Noone rushes Mr Wu; what is more, an airline employee offers him water and starts a friendly conversation about his daughter. Although the girl is late for the flight they should take together, Mr Wu is not concerned about her as he is convinced she was held back by her work. Is it really so? Why does he receive so much kindness from strangers? Why does a memory from many years back return to him on the airport bus? You had better not know the answers to these questions before the screening, even if the title already alludes to them. The authors move skilfully back and forth between reality and magic playing with the elements of a horror and a self-reflexive film in a subtle manner until they finally present a story about a father-daughter relationship.
