A Shaman’s Tale
France, Czech Republic, USA2024documentary75'On the Edge
Undoubtedly, today’s Russia needs an exorcist. Aleksandr Gabyshev, who set out on foot from Yakutia to Moscow (about 8 thousand kilometres) to finally free the country from Putin by means of shamanic rituals, believes to be the right person for the job. Along the way, the charismatic shaman gathered a large group of pilgrims, which drew attention of the Kremlin authorities. The film, which resembles a mockumentary at times, can be simultaneously both funny and scary, depicting the absurd reality of the country mired in hopelessness, lawlessness and superstition.
