The Granny & Fishes
Iran2024documentary27'Short Film Competition
An elderly woman lives in a desolate area ravaged by droughts near Lake Hamun in Iran. Under an international agreement, Afghanistan was obliged to supply water to the area but failed to deliver on its promise. As a result, 300 villages were evacuated after the lagoon had dried up. The older lady remained the only inhabitant of one of them. Every day, she walks on the sun-cracked ground collecting dried fish and birds. In the place where once was a paradise, there are now only images reconstructed by animation, which makes the village come alive on screen revealing its former splendour.
