Tristan Forever
Switzerland2026documentary90'Documentary competition
The eponymous island located in the Atlantic, a dependent territory of the United Kingdom, is considered the most isolated of all inhabited places on Earth. It is here where a Parisian physician returns after 30 years with a plan to stay forever this time. He is not deterred by the harsh climate, nature or equally unwelcoming locals. What is he running away from and what is he looking for so far away from home? This fictionalised documentary explores the clash of romantic notions and longings with stark reality. But it also depicts the protagonist’s encounter with a special group of people for whom the island of Tristan is their entire world.
