Resilience

Two paths, two beautiful and modest people and one core plot – the desire to save fragile living systems. Czech director Tomáš Elšík, an author of ‘Central Bus Station’ (2018), presents in parallel the story of an activist renovating habitats endangered by human expansion and the story of an ornithologist documenting the poisoning of protected birds. The narrative that emerges out of their actions emphasises the significance of individual opposition to violence hidden in the foundations of ‘usual’ everyday management of natural resources. With impressive photography, the documentary exposes the disproportion between a local initiative and the global scale of progressing destruction, doing so without any facile consolation or rhetorical excess.
