Candela accidentally runs over her nephew’s dog, but she lacks the courage to admit her guilt for fear of ruining the boy’s birthday. Instead of revealing the truth, she invents a story about the dog’s pilgrimage to a sacred tree and sets off with the boy to search for it. With every lie, the child’s hope grows, whilst Candela sinks deeper into the trap of her own story. Their journey together strengthens the bond between the aunt and her nephew, yet at the same time it painfully reveals the weight of loss and the truth that Candela still cannot bring herself to speak out.
