Kosmogonia

France, Poland, Belgium, Portugal2025animated16'Short film competition

In sagas of the indigenous peoples of the Americas, the bison was a sacred creature: the giver of life and the guardian of the world. In Karolina Chabier’s animation, it appears as a goddess who draws another creature – goat-like, fragile and curious – from boundless darkness. Together, they adorn the sky with stars, awaken the sun and create lands to populate them with fantastic new creatures. Yet, the more luxuriantly thriving the world they have created becomes, the more it slips out of control. A beautiful, dreamlike tale about creation – our greatest power, which may often turn into the greatest burden and curse.

She arrived from Poland in 2015 to study at EESI in Poitiers, where she developed an interest in contemporary art. Drawn to animation, she then enrolled at EMCA where she made her graduation film "Dans les bois", which was selected for several festivals. She then decided to venture into writing and directing her first produced short film: Kosmogonia.
