Daughters of the Late Colonel
United Kingdom, Germany2026animated9'Short film competition
The colonel’s death is quite an event. The priest turns up immediately, completely unannounced; two daughters of the deceased must write a host of tearful letters and track down all his medals, whilst the funeral proceedings cannot be held without an appropriate military ceremony. But what if this very colonel was a gruff and domineering father to his grown-up daughters? Even after his passing, the women cannot find peace. This simple, unpretentious animated film – an adaptation of a short story by Katherine Mansfield – captivates the audience with its wit and humour.
