Dog Alone

What does a dog’s howl mean in the Portuguese countryside? In this autobiographical animated film, Marta Reis Andrade recounts her return to her hometown after many years of living abroad. Disillusioned by her loneliness in London, she packs her bags and heads home. Upon arrival, she finds her beloved grandfather deep in mourning. His sorrow is echoed by the barking of one of the local animals. The girl decides to investigate where the sounds come from. Through carefully crafted metaphors, the director tells a deeply moving story of returning to a home that will never again be the same as it was before she left.
