Merrimundi
Chile2025animated21'Short film competition
Animated anomalies, psychedelic cherubs and Latin chants in the mechanical world of unbridled imagination. Niles Atallah takes the viewers to a macabre repository of broken toys, which would certainly have appealed to Jan Švankmajer, the Quay Brothers, Hans Bellmer or Alfred Kubin. The world created by the animator is dominated by chaos, noise and macabre imagery, amplified by digital glitches and the multiplication of eerie singing heads. It is a psychedelic tribute to discarded matter, brought to life by unbridled creative imagination and limitless digital possibilities.
