The Last Family Tape
Poland2026fiction20'National competition
Real or staged? A film that walks a tightrope between fiction and documentary, exploring the director’s family relationships within a well-known family of actors. The filmmaker playfully uses the genre’s conventions to tell the story of his painful attempts to reconcile with his family. Kuba returns from rehab for Christmas. His parents are surprised by his presence, and his younger brother makes no secret of his hostility. Resentment and grievances persist even as the family members gather for a festive dinner and share the Christmas wafer. Only the wail of sirens and disturbing sounds from the outside – bringing to mind the end of the world - offer a chance for genuine reconciliation within the Jakubik family.
