The residents of the Land of the Rising Sun do not live by Chopin alone. Yoshiaki and Yumiko Oka are a couple in their 70s who were brought together by a shared fascination with Polish folk dances. For almost 40 years, they have been running a school in the town of Tomonoura where the polonaise, oberek and kujawiak reign supreme. The dancers are mainly mature ladies, and the Okas’ close ties with prominent Polish choreographers enable them to understand better Polish tradition and, in the process, overcome various barriers. The film is a record of this unique passion, transcending the boundaries of continents and cultures.
